Russ was 18 when he was killed in a terrible car accident at 11.35pm on Thursday August 23rd 2001. He'd picked up a screw in his back tyre and when he tried to take a bend he hit the kerb and the car was flung into the middle of the road. He hit a car coming in the opposite direction and the other driver, a young woman of 20 was also killed. He'd been to the cinema with his girlfriend and two other friends to celebrate their exam results and they were on the way home. He'd have been devastated to see what pain and sadness he's caused.
The accident smashed our existence into tiny fragments and our lives changed completely. The same happened I'm sure, for the other family involved. We thought we'd have Russ for the rest of our lives and never dreamed he'd die before us. It's all in the wrong order and no-one should ever have to face burying their child. We know the hurt is here forever and our only hope is that time may wrap it differently.
Russ was quite simply remarkable. He made a difference wherever he went and lived his life to the full. He was gifted and vibrant and his modesty was startling against the extent of his talents. He wasn't perfect by any means, but he was special. Russ was one of those people who could walk into a room and light it up. This is a quality very few people possess and one that no-one forgets.
Music, drama and rugby were his passions. He could take your breath away when he picked up a guitar and started to sing. His talent was natural and raw and I always felt it a privilege to be able to listen. He was loyal (especially to Matt, his big brother), dependable and loved making people smile. He had a wickedly dry sense of humour, laughed from his belly and shook hands like he meant it. He always aimed for the stars and couldn't see any reason why he couldn't reach them.
We miss him so much it will ache forever. His smile, his laughter, his big hands when he hugged us, his singing at the top of his voice in his bedroom. Our world is a poorer place without him and I would give my life to change what happened.

'As the day goes on
I'll be waiting.
When the sunlight has gone
Stop hesitating.
At the end of the track
I'll be here.
Wherever you're going
Stay near.'
(Russ Sishton 1998)

Happy Birthday In Heaven - by Winnie Lovett

"Happy Birthday Russell"
It's sure to be the best one yet,
Though you left us here behind.
Did you think that we'd forget?

Your cake this year, will surely be,
A beauty to behold.
With the icing made of Silver,
And the candles made of Gold.

Yes, your birthday in Heaven,
Will be such a grand affair.
And I know you'll look so lovely,
With a halo in your hair.

The Angels will come from everywhere,
To sing your birthday song.
And I know they'll be so happy,
That you've joined, God's Happy Throng.

No I can't send a card this year,
Or give a gift so fine.
So I'll just send a special prayer,
To that wonderful Son of yours.

Guardian Angel

I said a prayer for you today
and know God must have heard,
I felt the answer in my heart
although he spoke now word,

I didn't ask for wealth or fame
I knew you wouldn't mind,
I asked him to send treasures
of a far more lasting kind,

I asked that he'd be near you
at the start of each new day,
to grant you health and blessings
and friends to share your way,

I asked for happiness for you
in all things great and small,
but it was for his loving care
I asked for most of all.

Gone too soon

I saw the verse in the paper for Russell & the link to this site..I remember the accident happening & how sad & tragic as Russ was just starting out in his life..My brother Ryan Hunt was killed last year when a lorry hit him, he is also on this site..My brother & I both went to Great Wyrley High School and remember Russ's father..
I am so sorry for your loss & no words can ever make things any easier..God bless you all & like us all, hope you have the strength to carry on..
Rest in peace Russ..Steph Bradley xx

Russ's 24th Birthday

Happy Birthday, Russ! We all miss you so much and would give anything to have you here with us. Your birthday was always your favourite day of the year. Your day.
Remember how you'd stomp about upstairs and flush the loo to wake us all up, so we could get on with your celebrations. Blowing out the candles on your cake, breakfast in bed then opening your cards and pressies. And always the flamin' camera or video wouldn't work and so we hardly got any good pictures of your birthday morning. You've left us with some wonderful memories, but still.... not the same as having you here.
So today, we'll get through, even though once again, the pain of losing you has pulled us to our knees, because we know that the gift of having you at all far outweighs the sadness we'll always feel.
Happy Birthday, my lovely. XXXX

none

What a tragic tale-he sounds like a right good lad. What a pity-another car accident-it;s the reason I've quit driving.
My wife nearly died in a car crash-It's such a pity that something so simple like a trip to the cinema caused this loss.
I cannot imagine how hard it is to lose someone so close at the very peak of life. I'm so sorry for you..But the good memories must make it easier-I'm sure you've got many.
